Best things I made:

Sautéed Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar Pan Sauce

I was desperate for some sort of sauce to serve over chicken breasts last night and was trying to avoid my standby of creamy lemon sauce. I found this one online and it was super simple and very good. I will definitely make it again.










World’s Best Grilled Steak

I’ve made this twice and it is definitely the best steak I have ever made. We are far from steak connoisseurs, but we love this. It makes a cheap sirloin taste like a much more expensive steak. I highly recommend trying it. Don’t be weirded out by the ketchup in it…seems odd to me, but trust me, it’s good.



Worst thing I made:

Vanilla Oatmeal No Bake Cookies

Let me say, these were not gross. They were good, but were pretty gooey for no bake cookies and sooooooo sweet. Like eating pure sugar with a few oats sprinkled in. I would cut back on the sugar next time and cook them on the stove for at least double the time.








Roasted Frozen Veggies

We love roasted veggies, but we tried roasting carrots straight from the freezer and they just got soggy and blah. Stick to raw, defrosted carrots – they are much better.

While you’re here I’m excited to share my newest recipe with you!!! Awhile back I shared a recipe for Reese’s Pieces Bars on our blog… When I did, I mentioned you could use other types of cake mix and candies to vary the recipe…
Well today, let’s whip up some super easy, super yummy….

Chocolate Mint Bars!!!

Chocolate Cake Mix (I used Devil’s Food)
1/3 Cup of Oil
2 Eggs
1 cup of York Peppermint Pieces!

Mix all your ingredients together in a bowl.
The mixture will be fairly dry and hard to mix, but that’s what makes them bars, so don’t stress over that, just take your time. 😉 Once the ingredients are all mixed together, I fold in the candy pieces carefully so as not to smash them.

Press your mixture into a greased baking pan.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12-15 minutes.

Cut and serve! I like mine with a tall glass of milk! 🙂

Avocado Banana Ice Cream!

I thought it sounded interesting and I had one avocado that I needed to use up – so we tried it and it was delicious! I think you could cut back on the sugar by about half, but it was yummy. We weren’t patient enough to let it harden up in the freezer – we just ate it like soft serve. It was even gobbled up by my 3-year-old. He was scraping the bowl clean!

Stacked Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas – We are definitely meat eaters in this house, but the pictures of these enchiladas looked good enough for me to give it a try. And they were delicious. I didn’t have any fresh spinach on hand, so mine were just the tortillas, salsa, roasted veggies and cheese. Even my meat-loving hubby loved them and said he didn’t even notice they were meatless. I will definitely make them again – especially when I have lots of veggies to use up. I used sweet potatoes, bell peppers, onions, poblano chiles and serrano chiles. Then I used green tomatillo salsa on each layer.



Matzo Toffee –

Each year we celebrate the Passover and have a Messianic Seder dinner – we try to be as thorough as possible and serve kosher foods. It is always a really beautiful meal for us and adds to the richness of the Easter holiday. This has been our go to dessert over the past few years. It is delicious…for Passover or any other time.



Worst thing I made:

Penne with Grilled Chicken and Eggplant – We are newbies to the eggplant world and our first experience with Eggplant Bruschetta was awesome. I decided to try something different this time and grill it outside on the grill. It was not as successful. I did not love the consistency of the eggplant on the grill. I don’t know if we did something wrong, but it turned spongey and not great. I liked it roasted much better. I might make something like this again, but without the grill.

Roasted Cauliflower Soup – I had a head (if that’s what it’s called) of cauliflower in my fridge that was just waiting for me to cook. I’m not very cauliflower-savvy…covered in cheese sauce is all I could think of. Then I saw this recipe on Pinterest and thought it looked yummy. I added chicken (so my hubby would be happy) and used regular cheddar because that’s all I had. Pros – delicious flavor, good seasoning and all around yummy. Cons – I did not like the pureed consistency – next time I will not puree it, but will leave it with the chunks of cauliflower. I will make this again.



Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips –

I made this for our Housewarming Party and I had to stop myself from eating it all. The chips are delicious on their own, but the salsa is just perfect. I like to put mine into my food processor and give it a quick pulse, so it has more of a salsa consistency. Mine consisted of: apples, strawberries, kiwi and pears. I also didn’t use any sugar, because the fruit and preserves were sweet enough. I definitely recommend this for an appetizer/side.


Worst thing I made:

Well, I can honestly say this was a pretty good week! I didn’t cook at home as much as usual, so I didn’t have as much of a chance to make something gross! I think last week’s orange chicken debaucle was enough grotty-ness for a few weeks! I’m sure I’ll be back next week with something!

Yes, I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from “What’s for dinner?” During the move, I wasn’t always making dinner and when we were living with family, I never knew what I would be making and little of it was worth sharing. However, now we are in our new home and settled and I am starting to try new recipes again.

I’m hoping to get back to posting weekly. I know I can always use a new recipe for my reportoire…especially if someone else has already tested it to see if its good. 🙂


Best things I made:

Stir FryWe’ve been ordering a Bountiful Basket the last few weeks and this week we purchased the Asian pack. We had tons of sugar snap peas, bokchoy, peppers and onions to use up. I have a history of turning stir fry into sludge, so I was not too confident. I found this website that explained how to make a great stir fry and I realized I was breaking all of this guy’s rules. I was crowding the pan, I was constantly stirring. I was cooking everything together…not having a hot enough pan. No wonder it turned into stir fry soup. After following these guidelines (and used a wok), we had an absolutely delicious meal.

Greek Grilled Cheese Sandwich – If you need a quick, yummy lunch meal, this sandwich was delish. Simple enough to make for lunch, but tastes like you stopped at a restaurant. We made it on sourdough…make sure you load up on the feta! (click here for the recipe)


Worst thing I made:

Crockpot Orange Chicken – I got my first crockpot for Christmas and have been excited to find good recipes. Thanks to Pinterest, I found something I thought we would love – Crockpot Orange Chicken. We love Panda and orange chicken, so I thought it would be great. Sadly, I could barely eat this. My husband said it’s on my top 5 worst cooked meals list ( I would put it in the top 3). The sauce turned out like na orange flavored gravy instead of a glaze-y orange sauce. I would never make this again…I’ll stick to the stove and a wok for a my Chinese instead of the crock pot. That’s my first Pinterest recipe fail. Hopefully, the rest of them are fabulous!

Guest Post – Blissful and Domestic – Homemade Bread!

Hello Lovelies! I am so excited to be here at The Creative Paige! I am a follower of all of Paige’s cuteness and am excited to be a part of it today. Thanks for having me Paige!


Before I get started…let me introduce myself. I am Danielle and my home is over at Blissful and Domestic. I love to blog about sewing, crafts, recipes,home-school, etc. Basically anything that allows me to use my creative gene. I love thrift stores and re-purposing, which is mainly what you will see from me. I love taking some one’s cast offs and make them into something fantastic. So in a nutshell I am a crafting Mom, who loves to blog and share with all my blogging friends.
Today I am sharing a family favorite secret with you…
well maybe not so much a secret, but a family favorite.


This is seriously the yummiest bread ever! This is our go-to bread during the week. Last Thursday I was particularly in a baking bread kind of mood. I baked 2 loaves, which was good thing. We had company over and we all gobbled up one of the loaves. This is a bread machine recipe, which of course is always the easiest and yummiest.


Here Is What You Need:
1/3 cup Water
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbl of butter or vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp salt
4 tbl brown sugar
3 cups flour
2 1/4 tsp yeast
4 tbl gluten (optional)


Here Is What You Do:
Put all ingredients in your bread machine, according to your manufacturers settings. Mine go in the exact order listed above.


Select dough setting. Mine takes about 1 hr 30mins


Once your dough cycle is finished, punch down the dough and place it in a greased loaf pan. I like to use Pam. I spray it all over the loaf pan, place in my bread dough and then spray the top with more Pam. I then put plastic wrap over the top and wait for it to rise. It should rise up and above the edges of the pan.


Once doubled in size, bake at 350′ for 15 minutes or until lightly brown on top.


Take out of the oven and immediately rub a cold stick of butter over the top.
I do enough so that my bread has a light coating of butter on top.


Let cool a few minutes and then remove from pan and onto a plate,
where it will completely cool.


This bread is so yummy, when served warm with butter and jelly. It also makes some of THE best sandwiches! You will not be sorry when you make this.


It is Divine!

Best things I made:

Beer-battered Fish Tacos with Tomato & Avocado Salsa – I don’t like fish. Never have. But, we are trying to eat healthier, so I thought maybe in taco form I could handle it. These were delicious. I used White Asian Bass because they didn’t have tilapia at the fish market. I will definitely be making this again.

Rice Krispy Treats – Nothing special…just good ol’ Rice Krispy Treats! I haven’t seen regular Jet-Puffed Marshmallows here in the 8 months we’ve lived here (they have these weird tasting pink ones). I was walking down the aisle the other day and there they were! I decided to stock up so I could make s’mores, Rice Krispy treats and other marshmallow yummies, but they were $4/bag! That’s a lotta money for a bag of marshmallows, so I bought 1 and made a delicious pan of Rice Krispy Treats that we gobbled up quickly.


Worst thing I made:

Salad – I’ve mentioned that we are eating healthier…I mean trying to eat healthier. (the Rice Krispy Treats were us falling off the wagon). So, I’ve been trying to make salad one night a week for dinner. Problem is, I stink at making salads. I have no creativity. I end up with spinach leaves, tomatoes and some dressing. Pretty impressive, right? I’ve got to figure out how to diversify my salad arsenal without making them unhealthy. Got any good salad ideas? Best things I made:

braised chicken in sun-dried tomato cream sauce

Braised Chicken in Sun-Dried Tomato Cream Sauce – yummy! I served it over a little bit of pasta and it was super good. I was looking for ways to use up my jar of sun-dried tomatoes.

Grandma’s Mushroom Soup – This is from my family cookbook – it’s my grandmother’s recipe for mushroom soup and it is yummy. For the recipe, check out my guest post over at A Turtle’s Life for Me.

Italian Chicken Soup – One word – YUM. This soup is incredible. I didn’t have celery, so I threw in some squash, mushrooms and carrots. It was delish. I can’t wait to eat the leftovers.

Roasted Banana and Blueberry babyfood – ok, I know most people don’t taste babyfood, but this stuff smelled so good. It’s from the Tyler Florence book I reference in my babyfood post…I wanted to eat it. Yes, I wanted to eat babyfood and the baby gobbled it up.


Worst thing I made:

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Thingies – Ok, so these are not gross…they are amazing, but I could eat 1,000 of them and they are not the healthiest thing (bacon & cream cheese…yum)…that’s why they are the worst thing I made this week.
