Pinterest tools

Isn’t it crazy how Pinterest has gotten soooo popular? It always amazes me how trends come on so quickly. I know it’s a popular trend when my Mom (the least tech-dependant woman I know) is making recipes off of Pinterest and saying, “Did you see on Pinterest the other day…?”

I love saving all kinds of creative ideas on Pinterest. It has definitely taken the place of using internet bookmarks for me, but it also brings a lot of traffic to my blog. I love this article I found on Mashable with some useful Pinterest tools (full article can be found here) and I thought I’d share my favs:

PinReach.com – basic analytics, you can find out your most repinned pin, most popular boards and it gives you a PinReach score. It’s an interesting way to gauge your Pinterest influence. (average score is 29, just an FYI)

PinPuff.com – super simple site that gives you a Pinfluence score and gives you an idea of the value of your pins/referral traffic (a good score is between 40 and 70)

Pinstamatic.com – lets you pin other things besides just images  – i.e. a snapshot of a website, a twitter profile or user, sticky notes onto your boards and much more – try it out, it’s kind of fun!

PinAQuote.com  – highlight any block of text, paste it and create a cute re-pinnable pin to post to your boards (only basic options are free, more fonts require upgrade)

Hope you found something new…do you have any suggestions for great Pinterest tools? I’d love to hear about them!

    Friday Favorites – our Christmas!

This has been quite a different Christmas for us:

    • we just moved back to the U.S. only 1 month ago
    • we are living in someone else’s house
    • we don’t have any of our own Christmas decorations, etc.

In spite of all of these differences, we’ve tried really hard to make this a special holiday for our family.

Here are some of my favorite things we’ve done to make this a special Christmas:

    1. We made salt dough ornaments (found the recipe here):

    homemade salt dough ornaments
    painting our ornaments

    2. We decorated a gingerbread house (yes, we used a kit from the store) and I did let Zander decorate it. As much as I wanted to take over and make it super cute!

    3. We made candy – lots and lots of candy (and cookies). We started a tradition a few years ago of getting together to make sweets as a family. Each person brings a recipe and all of the ingredients to make it. Then we get together and make a ridiculous amount of candy, then everyone leaves with a variety of treats. This year we made whoopie pies, peanut butter fudge, puppy chow, caramel, candy sushi, peanut butter cookies, oreo truffles and much, much more.

    annual candy-making night

It’s taken work, but we’ve managed to have a great Christmas season so far and are looking forward to Sunday!

What are some of your Christmas traditions? We are always looking to add more to ours!

No link party this weekend – enjoy your Christmas with your family! Put away your computer and spend some extra time just soaking up the season. Check back in a few weeks for the next link party.

    deals, food

    Who doesn’t love free food?

This post brought to you by Gift Card Weekend. All opinions are 100% mine.

As you’ve seen so far on my blog – I love a good deal…I’m constantly looking for ways to save money and live on a very restricted budget. So, when I see a great giveaway, I always enter. It’s amazing how few people take the time to enter and I’ve won a few great things.

One of the best things you can win is a giftcard, because then you can decide what you want to spend it on!

In less than a week, there’s an awesome opportunity to win some giftcards to yummy Applebees!

December 10-18 ‘Gilbert the Gift Card Machine” is giving away over 100 giftcards!

What do you have to do to win? Just like Gift Card Weekend on Facebook for an entry. Then share the giveaway with your friends and you’ll get more entries for every ‘like’ you influence!

What is Gift Card Weekend? It’s a once-a-year weekend when stores offer special deals to people who redeem their holiday gift cards during the weekend of January 6-8, 2012. These retailers are participating in Gift Card Weekend: JCPenny, Regal Cinema, Subway, Sephora, Applebee’s, Bass Pro Shops, Adidas, Buca di Beppo, Lowe’s, Spa Finder, Marriot, Giant Eagle.

Hop over and get entered…I hope one of my readers wins a giftcard! If I win, I’ll be there eating my favorite – an Oriental Chicken Salad…yum!

Friday Favorites – My Home Wishlist

So, I’ve mentioned that we moved back to the U.S. just a few weeks ago…I’m pretty excited! One of the hardest things about an international move is that you don’t get to keep much of your stuff…it’s just too expensive to transport it all back to the States. So, we sold almost everything. Once we settle down, we’ll pretty much be starting over. I don’t know exactly where we are going to live, but that hasn’t stopped me from gathering inspiration for our new place! Here are the things I’ve been finding that I love so far:

    Yellow and Gray color schemes:

Yellow and Gray Styleboard from ‘Tis So Sweet  // Yellow and Gray Living Room from Style at Home // Bay window Kitchen nook from houzz.com

    Aqua and White kitchens:

Retro Turqoise Cabinets from Life In Grace // Kitchen from Hiya Papaya // Martha Stewart kitchen from Poppytalk

    Amazing Kid’s rooms:

Zoey’s Handmade Heaven from Ohdeedoh // Emerson’s Nursery from Project Nursery // Bright Kid’s Room from Hiya Papaya

Can’t wait to start putting some of these great ideas into practice…

Friday Favorites – my Wish List

Ok, so this week I’m sharing all the things I want to buy…well, not all of them. But some of the ones I’ve found recently. This is in no way a hint to my family for my birthday (which is in only 10 days)…

    1. Wooden Advent Calendar from Silhouette // I love, love it!
    2. Split Decision Pie Pan from The Spoon Sisters // My husband loves apple pie, I do not. This would satisfy both of our sweet tooths!
    3. Tom’s Shoes // I’ve wanted a pair for a while…
    4. Kitchenaid Fruit/Vegetable Strainer/Grinder // Looks like a great tool for making babyfood
